Host Ellen Kamhi, PhD, RN, interviews Dr. James M. Greenblatt about breakthrough depression solution by personalizing nutrition, diet and supplements.
James M. Greenblatt MD, is a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine, having treated patients with mood disorders and complex eating disorders since 1990. He is a co-founder of Integrative Medicine for Mental Health (IMMH), and currently serves as the chief medical officer and vice president of medical services at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dr. Greenblatt is also an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
His new book, Breakthrough Depression Solution: Mastering Your Mood with Nutrition, Diet & Supplementation (Sunrise, May 2016), offers a personalized model for relief from depression, eating disorders, and more. He has much to say about the 24 percent increase in suicide over the past 10 years, and the shocking 200 percent leap in suicides among girls aged 10-14, along with many other current topics in mental health today. The usual treatment mode (typically based solely on a subjective psychiatric examination and construction of a symptom list) often leads to psychiatrists blindly searching for a medication that might work. Other factors such as nutrition, toxins, hormones, allergies, biochemical risks, and medical disorders are typically ignored.
