About Dr. Thompson MD
Dr. Michelle Thompson earned her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY in1997. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Geriatrics at Montefiore Medical Center. After her training, she practiced as a Geriatrician at Sarah Neuman Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Dr. Thompson then launched her geriatric private practice, Geriatric Medical Service in 2004.
In 2011, Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida recruited Dr. Thompson as Medical Director to create and build their Palliative Medicine Service. Throughout her 20+ year career, Dr. Thompson has witnessed patients with severe chronic illnesses suffer emotionally, mentally, spiritually, as well as physically. Her work with patients afflicted with severe chronic conditions such as dementia, autoimmune disease, cardiac disease, and cancer, ignited a passion to search for a better option for healing.
Dr. Thompson discovered the practice of Functional Medicine. The specialty explores all the dimensions of illness and suffering and offers interventions for the person as a whole. Functional Medicine targets the underlying cause of illness. In partnership with the patient, lifestyle and treatment plans are generated with the goal of optimal results in wellness and overall health.
