FDA/FTC Regulations of Herbal Products are Ramping Up. Learn about The Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MOCRA)- with implications for small topical herbal products

Are you considering preparing and selling herbal products and designing your own attractive labels? If you stay ‘low and local’, traditional sharing and trading may allow you to stay under the radar of organizations like the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). However, to move into a more commercial setting, such as health food stores and all ONLINE retail venues,  there is a vast array of Good Manufacturing Practices, label requirements and MUCH MORE  that must be met and mastered if you are committed to avoiding the very expensive pitfalls of becoming ‘pen pals’ with the FTC and FDA.

All registrants will receive the course recording and handouts, with access to materials for one year.

3 CEUs are available to Massage Therapists, Dietitians, Nurses & Midwives in the state of Florida through CE Broker for students who successfully complete the course through attendance and submission of assignments. In this lecture we will outline definitions of marketing and labeling that are regulated by government organizations in the United States, and specific resources where a manufacturer can access compliance criteria. Ellen Kamhi PhD, RN will share her expertise as an herbal formulator and regulatory consultant in the Nutraceutical Industry.

Objective 1: Participants will evaluate their level of knowledge of FDA and FTC regulations of herbal product manufacturers

Objective 2: Participants will differentiate between traditional sharing and trading, preparation of individualized herbal remedies for clients, and commercial product offerings
